by Paul Stamets
This is still the best book for the genus Psilocybe on the market. Due to the fact that this genus is often left out of ID books (or skimped on), this book is also important. Paul Stamet's love of these mushrooms really comes through in his comments on over 100 species. Importantly, it covers look-alikes which are an important consideration for folks looking to consume this species. Due to its age, the taxonomy is outdated, but, still a great ID book.
From Paul Stamets comes the only identification guide exclusively devoted to the world's psilocybin-containing mushrooms. Detailed descriptions and color photographs for over 100 species are provided, as well as an exploration of their long-standing (and often religious) use by ancient peoples and their continued significance to modern-day culture. Some of the species included have just been discovered in the past year or two, and still others have never before been photographed in their natural habitats.
